Can I Choose a Different Name When Registering a Foreign Company in Ghana?
An external company registration is for a company already formed outside Ghana. The Ghana filing should use the exact legal name shown on the foreign incorporation documents.
An external company is a body corporate formed outside Ghana that has an established place of business in Ghana. The local registration is a Ghana branch of the foreign company, not a new Ghana company with a fresh name.
Use the exact legal name shown on the foreign Certificate of Incorporation. If the foreign documents say Inc., Corporation, GmbH, PLC, SA, or another foreign suffix, keep it. Do not convert it to LTD or LBG.
Do not add Ghana wording unless the foreign documents use it
Name conflicts are reviewed If the foreign legal name conflicts with a Ghana registry name, the customer should not invent a replacement. JRI treats that as staff review before ORC handoff.
- Do not add Ghana, Branch, or West Africa just to localize the name.
- Do not shorten the legal name because it feels easier to type.
- Do not change the suffix to match domestic company endings.
- ORC rejection guide - See why external names can be flagged for manual verification.
- Business name hub - Compare external company registration with domestic routes.
- Register external company - Use the external company route when the company already exists outside Ghana and the Ghana filing must match those documents.
